Hooray for Pioneers

There are many reasons to love pioneers, to admire them, to be indebted to them. But on a much more shallow level, I love them because they gave us one more holiday to celebrate with fireworks in the summer. Hooray for July 24th in Utah!

We celebrated the 24th with a barbeque on the expansive deck of the "New Stilts." It was so much fun! Everyone brought food to share and meat to grill up. Kathryn, our gracious host, pumped out the music and allowed us to navigate in and out of her kitchen. We laughed, ate, joked, and drooled over Ryan's dutch oven potatoes. It was a lovely evening for a social situation.

Andrew's fingers...haha

And word got around that there was a FREE (music to my ears) Peter Breinholt concert at Willow Park. We all navigated our way to the South end of town and listened to some feel-good music. :)

My favorite part of the concert was the people-watching. The little kids in front of us danced their hearts out and there were cute families all around us eating snacks and laughing. My happiest memory was when Peter Breinholt invited the audience to come to the open space in front and dance. You wouldn't convince me in a million years to do such a thing...but there are all kinds of people in the world. ;) Old and young people flocked to the front and just let loose. It was so sweet! It was a bright happy moment as people sang together and danced without a care in the world.

And of course, fireworks are a must! We sprawled a couple of blankets out on the park lawn and watched Bill and Ben play with lightsabers on their smart phones. And sooner or later the fireworks went off. It wasn't the most impressive show by any means...but fireworks are fireworks! :)

And I believe a Frostie run and Youtube clips were in order following the event. Gotta love the chocolate Frosties.

You're finally catching up on blogging. ;) Way to go Jess.

I'm jealous of you seeing fireworks. All summer I have missed out. Next year. :)
