I'm giving myself until 11:45 PM to write part of this post. My dear Bill is sick with a head cold and went to bed a few hours ago. When no one is around to tell me to go to bed, I find myself reverting back to my old ways. I would stay up all night if I could.
I have been in a blogging dirth! And just now I have I reactivated myself. If I were an inactive member of the church, the Lord would be proud because I have come back on my own...and I have immersed myself in it. I've been reading through other people's blogs like crazy today! My friends are brilliant writers!!!
I've even gone back and read some of my own posts from Freshman year. I am so happy that I have those. Me, Michelle, Mallory, Rachel, Taylor, and Kelsie had soooooo many fond memories. I was laughing out loud and couldn't wipe that grin off my face. I love those girls with all my heart.
But on the downside, I wish so much that I had written more about my Sophomore year of college. Living with Shanna, Michelle, Taylor, Hilary, and Melissa in Old Farm B1 was a whole other adventure! I took so many pictures with the intent to blog...and never really did. But if only I could express my love to them! I cannot tell you how happy I am to have those pictures at least. We had great times! One day they'll be up here in a mass picture blog post.
So here I am in my Junior year. I'm a married woman now! I have no more crazy roommates to blog about, but I do have a husband who makes for just as many great stories. :) I don't want any more regrets. Those memories I once recorded, again, re-emphasize the fact to me of how important it is to keep a journal. I love my blog.
I have to blog about our honeymoon before I can blog about the rest of my LIFE. It is my OCD tendency to keep things in chronological order. But who knows how long that will last at this point. I have so much heart and soul to spill out to the inter web. ;)
Our Honeymoon
We escaped from our reception and made our way to downtown Ogden to stay in the Marriott on 24th Street. Bill's parents were so wonderful in thinking ahead for us. They got us a place to stay down in the local area instead of driving all the way up to Bear Lake in one night. Can I just say, thank you?!?
This hotel was posh! I couldn't recall ever staying in such a nicer place! The concierge found out we were on our honeymoon and "upped" our room to a suite, free of charge. So our room was up on one of the upper floors of the building and we had a few extra pillows on our bed. It sure was pretty!
I totally snitched this picture from online.
But this is the room we stayed in!
Cave exploring!
We made it to the sweet little cabin near Fish Haven and were surprised to find a lovely "house warming gift" left on the table for us. Bill's family had gone up earlier in the week to make sure the cabin was in order. Can I just say thank you again?!? The place and treats were wonderful!!!
A "house-warming" gift of most of Bill's favorite treats!
It's from here that events all start to mesh together. So I will just provide pictures and mini descriptions of the rest of our fantastic honeymoon!
We ate a LeBeau's a couple of times while on our trip...this is us, waiting with baited breath, for our scrumptious food.
I apologize in advance for all the pictures of us that revolve around food. If you didn't know, you eat a lot on your honeymoon. Food always equates to a lovely socializing atmosphere, no? Alright. Let's be honest. More often than not we ate because we were hungry. Socializing was just an added bonus.
We had some time to kill before we headed over to the Pickleville Playhouse to see a show, so we pulled off to the side of the road and skipped rocks from a rocky beach. You will note the trees in the picture above. Bear Lake was amazingly high this year as well. There was not much beach to be had. Yet, we made the most of it!
This is us being in love...and so excited to get in and see "de cho." We saw, "Who Shot Juanito Bandito," an original Pickleville Melodrama. We laughed so hard throughout the evening! Oh my goodness! You bet your bottom dollar that we quoted it for the rest of our trip.
On Sunday morning I thought I would be a good little wife and make cinnamon strudel muffins. From a bag. We're not exactly sure how old the vegetable oil in the cupboard was...but um...they were not as delicious as I had hoped them to be. Clearly, we ate them anyway.
Then we went to the Bear Lake ward for our first sacrament meeting as man and wife. Tender. And absolutely raining outside.
When we came home from church, Bill stoked a fire in the wood-burning stove and we ate some sandwiches. It was cozy!
Fortunately for us, around dinner time, the sun came out! Bill's parents left us all the things to make a Sunday meal so we wouldn't have to go out to eat on the Sabbath. It may have been the best meal we ate throughout the course of our get-away-adventure. Judy? You're a fantastic cook even when your aren't physically there to feed us. :) Steaks, mashed potatoes, garlic bread, salad, sparkling cider...delish!
While Bill was grilling the steaks, I took an adventure in Bill's shoes down the lane to take a picture of the cabin.
You will note Lex to the side of the cabin. It's a miracle he got us there. As we were driving next to the lake, ten minutes away from our destination, Bill and I got looking at the jet-skis out on the water. Next thing we knew, our car caught air and we landed with a jarring thunk! Lex was still running, but he now ran ten times louder than he did before. We flipped around to go back and see what in the world it was we hit! There was nothing on the road. To this day, we are not sure what we hit, but we speculate it was a large rock. Whatever it was, it shattered our catalytic converter and cracked the exhaust piping. You could hear us coming from ten miles away and we drove everywhere with our windows slightly cracked so as not to asphyxiate ourselves. Luckily...we had just gotten married...and people were ever-so-kind and gave us money. When we returned home from our honeymoon, our first major expense was spent on car repairs. Just what we always wanted.
And after dinner, we dipped strawberries in chocolate!
The next morning we woke up to this pleasant kind of weather.
And we drove up to Minnetonka cave and took a tour! Our tour guide was a newby at his job and led us quickly through the cave and showed us all the fascinating rock formations. I was disappointed. He didn't even turn the lights off when we got to the end of the cave! But Bill had never been here before, so it was still a neat experience for him!
On our way back down from Minnetonka, we came across a truck that driven off the side of the road. Bill saw an arm poke out of the window and reversed the car quickly. A really old man and his dog somehow managed to get themselves in this predicament. The old man yelled from his window, "Call Bernie! Call Bernie!" We had no idea what he was talking about, but realizing that he thought we were from town, Bill carefully helped him out of his truck and then "called Bernie" the wrecker. When Bernie arrived he got out of his wrecker truck and called out to the old man, "Ya okay Bill?" It's a small town. Everyone knows everyone. :) Seeing everything was a-okay, we went on our way.
Bill's grandparent's suggested we eat at Studebaker's Pizza if we ever drove into Montepelier, Idaho...which we certainly did. We had pepperoni and pineapple pizza, Bill's personal favorite. And it was great!
As we left Studebaker's, Bill noticed this poster in the window. A circus!!! Tomorrow??? We were so in! We didn't have any plans for Tuesday, but this was definitely on the agenda. I was so excited!
After lunch, we went to the Oregon/California Trail Center. We signed up for a tour and were whisked away back in time to the days of the pioneers. We rode in a wagon and heard pioneer stories from a "legitimate" pioneer man. :) Good times. And we wandered the basement museum.
We stopped at the grocery store on our way out of town and bought supplies to make s'mores. Just for kicks, we bought pre-squashed mallows to make stacking our s'mores a much easier process. ;)
Before heading off to the circus on Tuesday, we stopped at LeBeau's...again.
And then we were off to the circus!!!
We fed llamas!
And smiled into the bright sun!
And walked into the sketchy tent...
And took pictures in the sketchy bleachers as we waited for the show to start.
We enjoyed the most po-dunk circus act for the next hour and a half!!!! :)
Some of our most favorite parts of the circus were the merchants selling to the crowds. Their accents were marvelous and their sales tactics? "Coddon Canny! Coddon Canny!" and "Coooo-La! Cooooo-La!" Well...you're at the circus...of course you will pay $3 for a medium cup of rootbeer. And $10 for a balloon? Anything for the kids when the circus comes to your small town! :)
I LOVED IT.
And although Lava Hot Springs was not in the nearest vicinity, we still decided to take a drive out that way!
We stopped at "Johnny's" in the small town of Lava. We were the only customers in the diner, but good gravy! My chicken-fried steak was as big as my face! But we would highly recommend the place! It was delicious as well.
Then we made a dash for the hot pots and boiled ourselves until we were thoroughly content. :)
Wednesday marked the end of our honeymoon. We cleaned up the cabin and packed our bags. I believe this is when we stopped at Cafe Sabor and did some window shopping throughout the town.
On our way out of Garden City, we made a stop at the top of the hill and took one last picture. :)
Our Honeymoon was the bomb. I will forever cherish it and the sweet memories we made.
We love each other.
But since I am the one writing this post, I will take the opportunity to express my love for my sweet husband!
Bill? You are the most charming man I have ever stumbled upon. You have the most service-driven mind and heart and I admire that fully. Thank you for being willing to sacrifice so much for our future and being willing to work together as we set goals. I love how we can laugh together and enjoy one another's company. I don't know what I would do if I didn't get to see you for AT LEAST eight hours a day. I love how you watch "I Love Lucy" with me and make delicious root-beer shakes! You take care of me and are so skilled with your hands as you work on our beater cars and fix things around the apartment. You are talented at leading people and offering such great insights into LIFE. I have so much that I can learn from you. I love how informed you are of the world and the fact that you are so willing to share that information with others. You offer hugs at just the right moment and always say just the thing I needed to hear. You help me to feel confident when I doubt my abilities and you are the window to opportunity.
Honey? I love you. More than words could express. Thanks for the last five months. :)
